大象無國界（Elephants Without Borders）指出，大部分遭獵殺的大象是擁有巨大象牙的公象。
大象無國界和波札那野生生物暨國家公園局（Department of Wildlife and National Parks）最近幾週透過空拍，發現此一慘劇。
大象無國界負責人蔡斯（Mike Chase）說：「我們7月10日開始進行空拍調查，迄今已發現90頭大象屍體。」
他並說：「我們每天都在計算死去的大象數量。」
這些大象在俄卡凡哥三角洲（Okavango Delta）一處廣受歡迎的野生生物保護區附近供水處，遭到大口徑步槍射殺。

However, the two existing female northern white rhinos are not able to bear calves because of poor health. Scientists therefore hope southern white rhino females will be able to carry the northern white embryos to term. That means putting the embryo inside a female southern rhino so that she can give birth.
